For those who are close with us or know my husband, you will know what an amazing man he is.
Mike is a hard worker, he is smart, and he is great at anything he puts his mind to and anything he is taught. Unfortunately Mike has not finished school and received his bachelors degree and when possible new job opportunities would arise, they became impossible without a degree. This was very disappointing not because Mike was wanting to leave his current job but because he had maxed out and needed a job where he could grow and provide for a growing family.
Mike has been employed with Sunburst Shutters for over 11 years!!! He has absolutely loved every minute of those 11 years so it was extremely hard for him to grasp the concept that now with two kids and a changing life, it just isn't enough and there's nothing else he can do with this company.
A friend in our ward suggested Mike apply for a position that was about to open at the company he works for. He said he knew Mike didn't have a bachelors but that he would try and put in a good word for him and see what he could do for them to consider Mike for the position. I will save you a long story but after a two month process, six rounds of interviews and two tests, Mike was offered the job.
Mike starts July 1st at Beryl Health as a Strategic Account Manager.
Mike was thrilled for this opportunity but was still sad he had to leave Sunburst. His boss was a father figure to him for so long and good family friend that he truly respects and admires. It was hard to give his two week notice but with their great relationship his boss was sad to lose him but was so understanding and happy for him. We are so grateful for everything they have done for us and the job Mike had with them!
At Sunburst, he was provided a company car to take to and from work so technically we only own one car. Therefore Mike needed a car for his new job. We had two weeks to find him a car but with his crazy school schedule, working late, the kids and me doing photo sessions we really only had a couple days available to go out and actually get a car instead of just researching online. We thought we found a car we loved but after figuring out that it only takes premium gasoline, the hour drive to and from Mike's new office 20 days a month would make our gas budget pretty darn high. Knowing that last night was the ONLY time we had to both go and get Mike a car before he starts his new job on Monday, I frantically searched online to see what other options we had. We found it. Mike originally thought he wanted a Honda Accord but then decided on another car, then we found and chose a different car and ultimately ended up buying a Honda Accord. We love it. It was the best value we found and the car Mike fell in love with.
Mike will be doing some traveling once he's all trained and ready to go and it sounds like he might be going on some business trips for training. He will be gone on business trips which he didn't do with Sunburst but the pay is better and there is room for growth in the company.
Mike is excited to work with everyone he has met throughout the interviewing process. He's especially excited that they golf frequently and that means he "needs" to as well. ;)
We are thrilled and very blessed that Mike was able to get this job without a degree. Everyone who interviewed Mike saw that he was someone with great potential, he is smart and that he would be an asset to their company whereas anyone else would have passed by his resume without a degree listed on there. We are EXTREMELY grateful for our friend Steven who was a coach and rooted for Mike the whole time. If it was not for his high recommendation Mike would not have been considered due to his lack of degree. Mike will still be going to school at night to obtain his bachelors so that he has the ability to move to higher positions in the company.
You're awesome Mike. Thanks for all your hard work you do for our family. You deserve this and your pretty new car. :) Love you!
