Madison's Blessing Day

3 Happy Thoughts
Madison was blessed this past Sunday (Feb. 3) in our new church building. Mike gave her a beautiful blessing and I am so grateful that we had our close family there to be with us. After sacrament meeting we went out and my mom took some pictures with her camera and then we all went over to our house where my mom had provided a lot of food, Mike's mom brought brisket and us girls prepped it all. It was a nice light lunch with chit chatting and hanging out. After everyone left we Mike and Preston got quick naps and then we went to my parent's for dinner to see my Uncle Lon and Aunt Loraine who are here for a quick visit. We had a yummy dinner, chatted for a while and played a game then we headed home.

Mom of Two

1 Happy Thoughts
Being a mom to two kids is awesome, exhausting, wonderful, interesting, and much more. At first Preston was really not sure about Madison. In the hospital he wouldn't go near Madison almost as if he was scared of her. For the first few days he would go near her and possibly even give her a kiss on the head if we asked him but that was about it. He grew very attached to Mike and if Mike ever held Madison, even for a second, Preston would come behind me and while pushing me towards Mike he would say "Go Mama, hold da baby". He wanted me to hold Madison so that as soon as Madison was out of Mike's arms, Preston could then reach to have Mike hold him. He didn't like Daddy holding the baby. Luckily that started to change and a couple days later we bribed Preston with some candy so that he would hold Madison and hopefully see that she wasn't so bad. So he did and he's wanted to hold her ever since. Unless his toys are more interesting.

We've all been sleepy and tired...

Preston is such a goober...

Occasionally both kids want me at the same time...
I've been tired but it's been Preston who has made this transition a lot easier than well...than it should be.
Since Madison's arrival, Preston has been sleeping in until 9am, 10am, 11am, and a couples times even 12 o'clock. He goes to bed at 9pm, sometimes 9:30pm almost every night and he typically wakes up between 10-11am. I don't know why. Maybe a growth spurt or maybe the Lord knows that I will be a terrible mother if I don't get some help with some sleep. Madison has been a little bit of a night owl from about 11pm-2am. No matter what we do, we can't keep her awake from her 8pm feeding until her 11pm feeding. She will NOT wake up. We try to keep her awake so that she will sleep from 11pm until 2am and then so on but NOPE! This girl is stubborn. So, needless to say, when I am up until 2:30 then up again from 5am-5:30am it helps to not only have Preston asleep so I can sleep until Madison gets up at 8am (if he woke up at 7am I would be up then too) but then on top of that, Madison eats from 8-8:30am and then usually falls back asleep and I get too as well because Preston is still asleep. I then wake up when Preston does (about 10:30am) and then I'm up for the day. Now, Preston does NOT nap when on days he sleeps in but honestly I would not have it any other way. I would rather continue to sleep from the night then try to get in a nap IF my kids miraculously nap at the same time. Preston sleeping in has TRULY been a lifesaver.
Also, Preston has been so independent and so understanding of me needing to take care of the baby and he's actually a big help. If I'm feeding Madison and he wants to watch a different show he will bring me the remote, if I can't reach something he gets it for me, if I drop something he will pick it up for me, if I'm busy and Madison is crying he will go over and gently rub her head and say "shhh. It's ok baby, no cryning". He has never been destructive or gotten into anything he's not supposed to so it's wonderful to trust him COMPLETELY while I am changing Madison's diaper or I can even have Madison asleep, put his snacks and drink on the coffee table for him and I tell him "mommy is going to go take a shower. Be a good boy" and I end up getting a shower for the day. I always come out of the shower to find Madison still asleep and Preston eating snacks, playing with his toys and occasionally glancing at Mickey Mouse on T.V. He's amazing. He really, REALLY is amazing and I am so grateful for him and I try so hard to be the mom he deserves.

PS- As I am writing this blog, it is 10:56am and he is still asleep. AWESOME!

Slacking!

My awesome friend April was such a huge help in so many ways with preparing for Madison's arrival so I took her to a Mav's game. Mike had a customer give him tickets for AWESOME seats and I had plans with April that night anyways so he let me take April and he stayed home with Preston. If you even know my husband (crazy sports fan and obsessed with the Mavs) then you know that's true love.
